While visiting Chicago, I finally had my first taste of its famous Italian Beef sandwich. I went to
Portillo's. My friend,
Skillet Doux, an Italian Beef authority, considers the beef at Portillo's consistent but not spectacular.
I ordered mine wet with hot and sweet peppers. Instantly, I became a fan of this local sandwich: great bread, juicy, beefy, and spicy all together.
